While San Francisco immigration court has one of the highest asylum grant rates in the nation, other courts in the Ninth Circuit are not often fair. SJC sees women who have been denied asylum cases by judges in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Portland. These women seek out attorneys at SJC to work on their 9th Circuit appeals.
SJC accepts meritorious asylum cases that were erroneously denied by immigration judges in the 9th Circuit. These cases include women who fled horrific domestic abuse abroad but were found not to be credible because of inconsistent testimony due to past trauma, or whose cases don’t fit exactly in the legal parameters for asylum but nonetheless should qualify.
Through our Ninth Circuit Appeals Project, SJC aims to create positive precedent for women seeking asylum in the United States.
