Maya moved around a lot growing up but spent most of her childhood split between Northern Virginia and Oakland, California. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Cultural Anthropology. Her love for nonprofit work grew after spending a year working with the San Jose chapter of the educational nonprofit, City Year. She joined the Social Justice Collaborative team in February of 2017 after hearing about the travel ban that the Trump administration imposed on immigrants from majority Muslim countries. Maya is the Office Manager at SJC and works on many different projects. She plans to return to school in the Fall of 2018 in order to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies.
