Anthropologist at St. Olaf College
Chris Chiappari is an anthropologist who teaches at St. Olaf College. His research focuses on religious beliefs and practices in highland Guatemala, including those of Maya spirituality, Protestantism, Catholicism and the Pentecostal/charismatic movement.
His other research interests include popular religion, religious hybridity, and cultural studies in Latin America, and especially in Central America, Mexico and Brazil.
As an advisory board member, Chris helps SJC attorneys understand the complicated issues facing their Guatemalan clients. He provides expert advise on asylum cases.
