Patsy is a second-year UC Berkeley student from Madera, CA majoring in Political Science and Legal Studies with a minor in History. Growing up in the Central Valley, Patsy witnessed the injustices her immigrant farm working parents and their coworkers often faced as a result of discrimination based on suspect “legal statuses.” In addition, many lives have been lost in the heat of the Central Valley fields due to lack of breaks, inaccessible water, and a lack of adequate healthcare for many farmworkers. For these reasons, Patsy has committed herself to leverage her US-born privilege by advocating for equal legal rights for undocumented people. Patsy has volunteered with Kids in Need of Defense in Fresno, the DREAMERs Project in Oakland, and has interned for Inside the Living Room with the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant. Patsy’s goal is to become an immigration attorney in order to return to the Central Valley and become a resource to the community that has given her so much despite often facing a lack of resources.
