support our work
We can’t continue to provide free and low-cost services without your financial support. Your support:
- Keeps children and their parents safe and secure
- Keeps immigrants out of detention
- Gets clients work authorization for income security
- Stabilizes our community by preventing deportations
With your donation of $60, you will be providing a child a free legal consultation with a lawyer specializing in immigration. SJC never charges children for legal work, and your donation makes this continue to be possible.
mayan language interpreter
Your contribution of $100 provides a Mayan interpreter to a child. Many of SJC clients speak Mam, an indigenous Guatemalan language, and do not understand or speak Spanish. Having an interpreter is essential to providing legal representation. Because SJC’s Mam interpreters are immigrants themselves, it also helps us provide culturally sensitive representation.
With $200, you can provide income stability for a low-income client. This enables clients to obtain work authorization for up to two years. With work permits, clients can obtain good paying jobs to support their families.
initial court appearance
A donation of $300 provides a low-income immigrant legal representation at her initial hearing in immigration court. Legal representation by an immigration attorney in court is the single most significant factor in determining whether an immigrant family will be permitted to stay in the U.S. or be deported.
