Advocacy
Standing against the deportation machine and organizing in coalition for housing, food, healthcare, and safety.
SJC stands against the deportation machine and against borders that divide loved ones. That stance is the foundation of our Advocacy work. We don't fight alone. Our liberation is tied to one another, so we organize in coalition, knowing immigrant justice moves together with housing, food, healthcare, and safety from policing and surveillance. We push for change at the state and local level, stand with our neighbors, and oppose the systems built to detain, deport, and surveil our communities.
Where We Stand
SJC stands against the deportation machine and against borders that divide loved ones. We name the immigration system for what it is: unjust, built to detain and remove people who came here to live and work alongside their families. That stance shapes every coalition we join and every fight we take on. We don't ask families to prove they belong. We organize to defend their right to stay.
We Build in Coalition
Coalition work sits at the center of our advocacy, not off to the side. Our liberation is tied to one another. Immigrant justice moves together with housing, food, healthcare, and safety from policing and surveillance, so we organize across all of it. We show up as one of the many people fighting for a better world, lending our legal weight to campaigns our neighbors lead and building the power no single organization holds alone.
Statewide Coalitions
We push for change across California through statewide coalitions. We organize with Rep4All to win the right to counsel for people facing deportation, with Food4All to open food assistance to every immigrant, with SafetyNet4All to extend the safety net regardless of immigration status, and with Healthcare4All to make care a right for all Californians. These fights connect: a family secure in its food, healthcare, and income is a family better able to stand against removal.
Local Power in Berkeley
Change starts at home. SJC is part of the Berkeley Immigrant Collaborative and organizes with neighbors to make our city a place that protects immigrants. We pushed for and won the Berkeley sanctuary ordinance, and we keep pressing the city to put real funding behind removal defense so that no one in Berkeley faces deportation without a lawyer.
Against Surveillance and Detention
Surveillance feeds the deportation machine. SJC opposes Flock cameras and other surveillance technology that tracks our neighbors and hands their movements to enforcement agencies. We fight the expansion of detention centers and the contracts that fund them. People are not threats to be watched and caged. We organize to shut these systems down.
