    Asian Law Alliance

ALA programs are designed to make legal services accessible to Asian/Pacific and low income people. Delivering services in Asian/Pacific Islander languages. Providing consultation and legal representation on a free or low-cost basis. Services are provided by staff attorneys, support staff, and volunteers who are multilingual in various Asian languages. Housing: Ensuring access to decent housing, preventing and combating against illegal and discriminatory housing practices. As of September 1, 2021, ALA is holding weekly unlawful detainer clinics to provide self-represented tenants who are in the eviction process with information and assistance on the forms. Public Benefits: Assisting the elderly, families, and disabled individuals in ensuring their opportunities for Social Security, family maintenance and disability benefits. Immigration & Deportation Defense: Assists with applications for citizenship, green cards, and other immigration remedies. Provides legal defense for deportation and removal proceedings. Domestic Violence/Victims of Violent Crimes: Seeks resolution for individuals in the areas of civil, immigration, and family law who have been victims of domestic violence and/or violent crimes. Civil Rights: Defending and promoting laws that afford Asian/Pacific Islanders full rights and opportunities. The passage of regressive laws in recent years has threatened these ideals. In response, ALA has worked with diverse community groups to protect the rights of the immigrant, the family and the poor. The Santa Clara County Asian Law Alliance (ALA) is an equal opportunity service provider to all persons regardless of, race, sex, color, age, religion, actual or perceived gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, ethnic or national origin, or familial status.

    Red Cards (ILRC)

Red Cards All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The ILRC's red cards give examples of how people can exercise these rights. However, they do not provide individualized legal advice. Community members are encouraged to check in with a trusted legal service provider for questions about their situation. Read below to learn how to order red cards, print your own in many languages and effectively use them. Special thanks to our many partners who contributed translations in the various languages now available, making these red cards accessible to more individuals.

Jewish Family and Community Services East Bay

Mental Health Services After experiencing war, poverty, and relocation, refugees and immigrants arrive with complicated trauma histories and require specialized treatment. They must also face the challenges of building a new life in a new country. This extreme stress puts refugees at high risk for severe mental health issues. JFCS East Bay’s mental health programs for Afghans, Ukrainians and others focus on assessing each refugee or immigrant to determine their mental health status and needed services. This early intervention helps prevent larger issues from emerging. If appropriate, our own multilingual psychologists will provide direct therapy services. Case managers are trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health problems. When outside services are needed, our staff provides referrals, advocacy, and translation to help refugees and immigrants connect with mental health providers. In addition to working individually with refugees and immigrants, our multilingual staff also provide group presentations on mental health topics. These workshops help our clients understand how to differentiate between normal immigration stress and more serious issues, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of depression, and how to determine which services they need.
