Maribel is a 4th year student attending San Jose State University majoring in Justice Studies. Over the course of her studies she has found an interest in the legal aspect of justice.As a first generation student, it is important for her to become educated in ways she can help out people who come from the same background as her parents and family. Maribel is the daughter of immigrant parents who were born in Michoacan, Mexico. She understands the challenges and obstacles many undocumented immigrants, like her parents, have had to overcome in order to be here which is why she chose to intern at SJC.As an intern at Social Justice Collaborative she hopes to learn more about the legal process in order to help out individuals who need it the most. In addition, she hopes to become a resource to others who may be too afraid to seek help.
